Myrtue’s Jacobsen gets contract renewed

    HARLAN -- Myrtue Medical Center Board of Trustees approved a three year renewal contract for MMC CEO Barry Jacobsen on Tuesday. Jacobsen will be awarded an annual salary of $200,600 beginning January 1, 2016.         This new approved proposal is a 4.5 percent raise from his current salary of $192,200. The new terms are an addendum to his original CEO contract which began in May 2009.

Santorum, Huckabee make campaign stops in Harlan

HARLAN -- Former Arkansas Governor and winner of the Iowa 2008 Caucus Mike Huckabee, was in Harlan on Friday, Oct. 30 as part of a five city presidential campaign trip.   Also in Harlan last week was Rick Santorum, who stopped by Pizza Ranch on Thursday, Oct.

Julia Goetz, 58

SIOUX CITY -- Julia “Julie” Kay Goetz, 58, Sioux City, died Wednesday, Oct. 28 at a local hospital.    Services were held Friday, Oct. 30 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with burial in the Logan Park Cemetery.    Goetz is survived by her son, Justin; sisters Joan Goetz (Dan Heller) of Irwin and Jean (Doug) Gross of Defiance; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Sharlisa Robinson, 49

    IRWIN -- Sharlisa “Lisa” Renee Robinson, 49, Irwin, died October 30 at Manning Regional Healthcare Center.    Services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Irwin.  Visitation was Monday, Nov. 2 from 3-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.    Robinson is survived by father Norman Schaffer, Sr.

Helen Kuhr, 92

WALNUT -- Helen Kuhr, 92, Walnut, died October 29 at the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center in Avoca.    Services will be held Thursday, Nov. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut with burial in the Layton Township Cemetery at Walnut.  Visitation is Wednesday, Nov. 11 from 5-7 p.m.

Mary Portwood, 91

    HARLAN -- Mary Patricia “Pat” Portwood, 91, Harlan, died October 16 at the Avoca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Avoca.    Services were held Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m.

Helen Jorgensen, 92

    ONSLOW -- Helen Arline Jorgensen, 92, Onslow, died Wednesday, Oct. 21.    Services were held Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10:30 a.m.

Clarence Jensen, 89

    ALGONA -- Clarence “Mike” Jensen, 89, Algona, formerly of Minden, died Monday, Oct. 26 at the West Bend Care Center.    Services will be Saturday, Nov. 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Church in Algona with burial in the Minden Cemetery at a later date.    Jensen is survived by three sons, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Jeanette Swenson, nieces, nephews and friends. 

Nina DePue, 94

    HARLAN -- Nina Virginia DePue, 94, Harlan, died October 27 at Elm Crest Retirement Community.    Private graveside services will be held.  There will be no public visitation.    DePue is survived by daughter Mary (Randall) Armentrout of Harlan; brothers Ronald (Karen) Genco of Bellevue and John Genco of Phoenix, AZ; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.    Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan is in charge of arrangements.

Alice Falk, 97

    AVOCA -- Alice L. Falk, 97, Avoca, formerly of Minden, died Tuesday, Oct. 27 in Avoca.    Services will be held Friday, Oct. 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Minden United Church of Christ in Minden with burial in the Minden Cemetery.  Friends were asked to call Thursday, Oct. 29 from 2-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m.
