Local candidates unopposed for November election

    COUNTY – Harlan Mayor Gene Gettys, Jr. will be seeking his third term in office, and will run unopposed in November’s election.    Gettys and a host of others in communities throughout Shelby County filed nomination papers by the deadline Thursday, Sept. 17, for positions as mayor or on local city councils.

ENGAGEMENTS - Shannon Neff and Jeremy Muell

    PANORA -- Shannon Neff and Jeremy Muell both of Casey will exchange marriage vows on October 10 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Panora.    Shannon is the daughter of Debora Linquist, Waukee; and Scott Neff, West Des Moines. Jeremy is the son of Dan and Deb Muell, Portsmouth. 

ENGAGEMENTS - Lauren Laehle and Axel Knudsen

    ANCHORAGE, AK -- Evan and Julie Laehle of Walnut announce the engagement of their daughter, Lauren Elizabeth, Oceanside, CA to Axel Aaron Knudsen, Anchorage. He is the son of Robin and Trudy Knudsen, Anchorage.    The couple will wed on December 23 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Anchorage. An Iowa reception in their honor will be held on December 30 at the Corley Hall. 

Marjorie Hansen, 86

    HARLAN -- Marjorie Ann Hansen, 86, Harlan, died September 23 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.    Services were held Saturday, Sept. 26 at 11 a.m.

Marilyn Jensen, 78

    EARLING -- Marilyn Bernice Jensen, 78, Earling, died September 21 at the Little Flower Haven Nursing Home in Earling.    Services were held Thursday, Sept. 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.    Jensen is survived by brothers Harold Jensen of Denver, CO and Gerald Jensen of Earling. 

Agnes Larsen, 88

    HARLAN -- Agnes M. Larsen, 88, Harlan, died September 22 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.    Services will be held Friday, Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.  A wake service was held Thursday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.  Visitation was Thursday from 6-7 p.m.

Clifford Kauffman, 96

    YORK, NE -- Clifford W. Kauffman, 96, York, NE, formerly of Marne, died Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Hearthstone Care Center in York.    Services will be held Friday, Sept. 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Redline Church of Christ in Redline with burial in the Redline Cemetery.  Visitation was held Thursday, Sept. 24 from 7-9 p.m.

Thomas Schuler, 86

    HARLAN -- Thomas Marvin Schuler, 86, Harlan, died September 21 at Elm Crest Assisted Living.    Services were held Thursday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m.
