Douglas “Doug”  Dean Redinbaugh was born on December 21,1949 to Verne and June Redinbaugh in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  Doug grew up on a farm outside of Neola, Iowa with his parents and siblings, Verna, Richard, Dianne, Rodney, Les and Mike. 

Luetta Susan Schwery was born November 23, 1932, to Anthony J. and Anna (Kloewer) Klein on a farm near Harlan, the fourth of seven children.  She was baptized in St. Boniface Church in Westphalia and made her first communion and was confirmed at St. Michael’s Church in Harlan.

Gary Eugene Larson, 89, passed away peacefully at home on April 2, 2026.
Gary was born to John and Edith Larson in Harlan, Iowa and grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Harlan High School and attended Morningside College on a football scholarship. He attended the University of Iowa, graduating with a Master’s degree in Hospital Administration. He then served his country in the Air Force for three years.

DENISON — The Harlan Community girls track and field team used depth, versatility and strong relay performances to claim the team title Friday night at the Denison-Schleswig Co-ed meet, finishing with 140 points to top a competitive field.
The Cyclones leaned on contributions across the lineup, with 22 different athletes scoring points in the victory.

COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Harlan Community girls soccer team traveled to the campus of Iowa Western Community College on Monday to face Class 1A pre-season No. 7 St. Albert, falling 10-1.
The Cyclones’ lone goal came from Carly Torneten, who converted her only shot on goal and provided a bright spot against a strong St. Albert defense.

AUDUBON — The IKM-Manning boys track and field team opened the 2026 outdoor season with a strong showing at the Audubon Early Bird Meet on March 31, displaying depth and competitiveness across the board.
The Wolves were led by senior sprinter Max Butler, who captured first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.12. 

Harry S. Budd, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather died Monday, March 30, in Ames, Iowa surrounded by family, at the age of 89.  A visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Adams Funeral Home in Ames, Iowa and a graveside service for family at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, April 10, 2026 at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Gerald Benedict May was born on February 12, 1947, in Harlan, Iowa, the son of Nicholas and Adeline (Blum) May. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama. Gerald attended St. Mary Catholic School and graduated with the class of 1965. He went on to attend Iowa State University, where he majored in mechanical engineering.

HARLAN – The Harlan Community boys soccer team opened their season Monday night against the Treynor Cardinals, a program that has had the Cy-clones’ number in recent years. 
That trend continued, as HCHS dropped its sixth straight contest to Treynor with a 5-1 loss.
Despite the result, the Cyclones showed encouraging signs on both ends of the field but were unable to overcome key moments against a strong Treynor squad.
