HARLAN — The Harlan Community Cyclone girls soccer team finished last season with a 9-9-1 record and is looking to build on that success with a new coaching staff leading the way.
Chelsey Buman takes over the Cyclone program. A 2009 HCHS alum, Buman played in the program and has spent years coaching local youth soccer through AYSO.

MANNING — IKM-Manning senior Anna Stangl signed her letter of intent on Wednesday to attend Morningside University, where she will continue both her education and basketball career.

AMES — The IKM-Manning boys track and field team competed with a limited lineup last Friday at the Class 1A portion of the 2026 IATC Indoor Champion-ships, but still delivered an impressive fourth-place team finish against a strong field.
Entry into the meet is based on qualifying times from the previous season, limiting the number of competitors and making the Wolves’ performance even more notable.

Diana Lee Wolf was born to Julyane (Johnson) and Arvid Larson on March 31, 1945 in Cordell, Oklahoma. She was united in marriage to Charles Wolf and to this union, two daughters were born: Joell and Janelle.

 Esther “Leone” Deskin, age 95, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, after a brief stay in hospice at Myrtue Medical Center.

Lynn E. Sorensen, long-time resident of West Des Moines, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2026. He was born June 18, 1938 in Harlan, IA and raised on the nearby family farm, a much-loved son of Andrew and Elsie Petersen Sorensen, the sixth of seven children in the family. Lynn’s siblings, extended family and friends provided endless camaraderie and activity as he was growing up.

Mary Jane Petersen, the oldest child of Richard and Elvera (Clausen) Thompson of Ute, Iowa, was born on February 10, 1933. She loved to share the story that she weighed only 2½ pounds at birth and began her life in a shoebox placed in the oven to “finish baking.” From that very beginning, she often said, everything in her life was a miracle.

ELK HORN – Fifty years ago, Elk Horn resident Harvey Sornson dreamed of bringing an authentic Danish windmill to the Danish Villages. With the support of neighbors, volunteers, and donors, Sornson made the impossible possible, importing a historic windmill from Nørre Snede, Denmark, and reconstructing it in Iowa. That was only the beginning.

DENISON —Harlan FFA members competed in various Leadership Career Development Events at the Southwest Iowa District FFA Leadership Conference held at Denison High School Saturday, March 7. Members also participated in Sub-district FFA Contests at Missouri Valley High School on Wednesday, February 11th, most qualifying for the district event.
