HCHS students gain access to CDL simulator at IWCC

HARLAN — Backing up a 53-foot trailer semi truck is no easy task, but thanks to a new CDL simulator at Iowa Western Community College (IWCC), this skill is now more accessible for aspiring drivers. Funded by an Industry-Recognized Credentials (IRC) Grant obtained by Harlan Community High School, the CDL simulator was installed at the end of September at IWCC.

Harris steps down as AHSTW football coach

AHSTW Vikings current head football coach G.G. Harris has stepped down, effective immediately.
In a text message, Harris said, "In the best interest of the team and for everyone to move forward, I have made the decision to step down as head football coach. Sometimes it’s more than just wins and losses. Sometimes it’s more than just about football. At this moment, it’s one of those times.”

Wolves struggle against #2 ranked Bulldogs

The IKM-Manning Wolves volleyball faced an uphill battle Tuesday night against the #2 ranked 24-3 Riverside Bulldogs, losing three straight sets (25-16, 25-15, and 25-19).
“We played good, we kept with them, but we can’t get in our little slumps as much as we do,” said Sophomore Ella Langel. “We need to work on our confidence a lot more.”

Four candidates nominated for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Shelby County Extension Council

SHELBY COUNTY – Four Shelby County residents have been nominated to serve 4-year terms on the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Extension Council. Their names will appear on the Nov. 5, 2024, general election ballot. One additional candidate has been nominated for a two-year term to complete an unexpired term.Nate Botine, Harlan, nomination committee chair, announced the names of the candidates.

Danish Ambassador visits Elk Horn

Rasmussen takes 3rd at Woodbine meet; Wilson finishes 5th

Two Exira-EHK Spartan cross country runners, Junior Austin Rasmussen and Sophomore Michelle Wilson continue to set the tone for their teams, most recently at the Woodbine Invitational Monday afternoon.
Rasmussen took third place with a time of 18:18.00, finishing less than a minute behind the overall winner, Gunner Wagner of Woodbine, whose time was 17:39.15.

Cyclones earn big victory over Bluejays

Senior Cyclone Lukas Francis had a big night for his team coming away with 179 rushing yards and scoring five touchdowns in a must win 49-7 victory for the HCHS Cyclones over the Perry Bluejays improving their record to 3-3 on the season.
