Amethyst Marie Phipps was born to Letha Schrader and David Phipps November 21, 1978. Amethyst had no children of her own biologically but she loved her friends’ children fiercely. She babysat, showed up to games and recitals, and was “Aunt Aimee” to so many. With such a big heart, it was no wonder she ended up being in health care as a CNA.

Ella Mae Staiert, daughter ofJoseph and Catherine (Leiting) Loeffelholz,was born on July 7, 1925,on her parents’ family farm near Mt.Carmel, Iowa. She was baptized andconfirmed at Our Lady of Mt. CarmelCatholic Church and attended OurLady of Mt. Carmel Catholic School.She grew to adulthood on the familyfarm outside of Mt. Carmel.Ella Mae met Walter Staiert at adance in 1941.

Doraine Jane Wigg, 94, passed away on August 19, 2024, in Grinnell, IA.Doraine was born on December 3, 1929, to Louie John and Alma (Gruhn) Thomsen near Manning, IA.  She graduated from Elk Horn High School in 1947 and attended radio electronic school in Omaha, NE.  She was employed by R.C.

Ruby Nadine (Larrison) Martin was born on March 9, 1938 in Iowa City, Iowa.

After a tough 31-10 loss in their season opener to the Lewis Central Titans, the HCHS Cyclones football team returns to Merrill Field Friday night looking for their first win against the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” said Senior Lukas Francis. “What happened against Lewis Central sucked, but you’ve just got to move past that and move on to greater things.”

Tuesday afternoon, the HCHS Cyclones cross country team competed in the Shenandoah Early Bird event that featured 12 other schools. The girls finished first as a team with 32 points, 12 ahead of Treynor who came in second place with 44. The boys finished in sixth with 135 points, 88 points behind Red Oak, who won with 47.

After a weekend tournament in which the AHSTW Vikings volleyball team took just one of six, they returned to action Monday at home for a triangular which also featured the Nodaway Valley Wolverines and Griswold Tigers.
During their match with Nodaway Valley, the Vikings made quick work of them taking the first two sets by scores of 25-6 and 25-8.

AREA ­— The Shelby-Tennant Alumni Association is asking former students and classmates to help preserve the memory of the school by donating Shelby-Tennant yearbooks. Chuck Martens, member of the Alumni Association said it is uncertain what happened to the school library’s yearbooks when the school consolidated with what was AvoHa in 1996 to form the A-H-S-T (now AHSTW) School District. “Schools are a mainstay in a community.
