HCHS Senior Katy Schmitz will be heading off to South Dakota State University for horseback riding.
“I’m really excited and really grateful,” Schmitz said. “It took a lot of work to get to this point. I’ve been competitively showing for 10 years now, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.”
With multiple choices in front of her, Schmitz talked about what led to her choosing SDSU.

After three tough losses, the HCHS Cyclones boys basketball team got back in the win column with a Tuesday night 67-45 home win over the Denison Monarchs.
“It feels nice,” said Cyclone Junior Dallas McDowell. “We were playing together. We’re catching a rhythm, so it’s fun to play with the guys out there and get a win.”

With a combination of stellar defense and multiple Cyclones stepping up on the offensive end of the floor, the HCHS Cyclones girls basketball team opened Tuesday’s home game on a 15-0 run en route to a 65-25 victory over the Denison Monarchs.

In their final tune-up before Regionals, the HCHS Cyclones girls wrestling team struggled Monday at Red Oak High School against four other schools in part due to weight differences, but head coach Tarah Devlin-Lawler was still proud.

Against grapplers from South Dakota and Nebraska, the HCHS Cyclones boys wrestling team competed against 15 other schools picking up individual victories along the way.
“The Sioux City tournament I think is a really good one,” said Cyclone Head Coach Adam Bendorf. “You see a lot of different kinds of wrestlers there. There were five or six teams from South Dakota and five or six teams from Nebraska.”
