DUNLAP (Feb. 5) -- The IKM-Manning girls improved to 16-4 Tuesday night with a 64-36 non-conference win at Boyer Valley. The Wolves drained eight 3-pointers in the game, including six by Alexa Ahrenholtz in 12 attempts.  HARLAN (Feb. 5) -- Continuing a busy final stretch to the regular season - six games in nine days - the Harlan Community girls basketball team lost three in a row vs. Glenwood, Sioux City East and St. Albert since last Friday, falling to 4-15 overall and 2-8 in the Hawkeye Ten. HCHS hosted Atlantic on Thursday and will close out the regular season Friday night at 10th-ranked (4A) Lewis Central.

 AVOCA (Feb. 1) -- Making his first career start on Senior Night, AHSTW’s Matt Sauvain hit 3-of-4 three-pointers and scored a team-high 13 points last Friday as the Vikings defeated Riverside 61-46. Sauvain and fellow senior Matthew Herrera (7 points) were both inserted into the starting lineup and totaled 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting after combining for just four points all season in limited playing time.

 HARLAN (Jan. 31) -- The Harlan Community girls established an 11-2 lead early in the second quarter Thursday night and were able to hold off Nodaway Valley for a 47-36 non-conference win, improving to 4-12 overall. The scrappy Wolverines (10-8) closed the gap to 22-21 early in the second half but the Cyclones managed to pull away.

 COUNCIL BLUFFS (Jan.

 HARLAN -- Dr. Lonnie Pitts, Council Bluffs, and Richard Daberkow, Harlan, both received state awards recently from the Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association for their service to the Harlan Community School District. Pitts and Daberkow were recognized on January 26 prior to the HCHS girls’ varsity basketball game against Glenwood.

 HARLAN -- Bob and Julie Klein, rural Harlan, are the 2018-2019 inductees into the Harlan Community Schools Athletic Booster Club Hall of Fame. The Kleins were recognized as this year’s hall of fame honorees at halftime of the HCHS girls’ January 26 home game against Glenwood. Bob and Julie have been very active booster club members over the years, serving on the booster club board of directors from 2005-2010.

 ELK HORN (Jan. 28) -- Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton entered the Class 1A boys basketball rankings at No. 10 Monday and promptly defeated CAM 74-50 that night to sweep the season series. The Spartans knocked down 12-of-25 three-pointers in the game, including 6-of-12 by Josh Pettepier and 4-of-5 by Trey Nelson, who led the team with 18 points each.
