 HARLAN (Jan. 17) -- The Harlan Community girls basketball team finished just shy of notching a signature win on Thursday night, leading much of the way against 13th-ranked (3A) Red Oak before falling one point short, 49-48. HCHS built a seven-point first half lead, was tied 27-27 at the half and led 44-40 in the fourth quarter before the Tigers went on a 7-0 run.

 AVOCA (Jan. 15) -- AHSTW junior Kinsey Scheffler scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds last Tuesday night as the Lady Vikes defeated Tri-Center 58-51 to complete a sweep of the season series. Claire Denning (11 points) and Kailey Jones (10) also scored in double figures for AHSTW while Katie Anzalone had eight points. Anzalone added six rebounds and seven steals while Jones had six boards and three blocked shots.

 AVOCA (Jan. 15) -- AHSTW held off a late rally by Tri-Center last Tuesday night to beat the Trojans 53-50 and earn a split in the regular season series. Clayton Akers paced the Vikings with 17 points, including five 3-pointers, and also grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Joey Cunningham knocked down three treys while totaling 13 points, followed by Blake Osbahr with nine points and Sam Porter with seven points and five assists.

 RED OAK -- The Harlan Community girls and boys bowling teams posted their best scores of the season at the Red Oak Tournament January 8, placing second and third, respectively. The girls team standings were as follows: 1.
