 ANITA (Dec. 11) -- For all of its struggles at the free throw line Tuesday night, the CAM girls basketball team hit enough perimeter shots down the stretch to hold off Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton 64-53 in a big early-season Rolling Valley Conference matchup. Five CAM players combined to make 7-of-19 three-pointers in the game, including treys by juniors Sammi Jahde and Allison Spieker early in the fourth quarter.

 AVOCA (Dec. 11) -- The AHSTW girls basketball team won its third game in a row Tuesday night, racing out to a 38-16 halftime lead and putting away Underwood 63-38 in Western Iowa Conference play. The Lady Vikes improved to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the WIC. Lady Vike junior Kinsey Scheffler led the team with 24 points and eight rebounds Tuesday, cashing 9-of-11 free throws.

 ELK HORN (Dec. 7) -- The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton boys bounced back from their first loss of the year in a big way Friday night, shooting 54 percent in a 67-21 rout of West Harrison. The Spartans, who lost at Ar-We-Va 66-65 last Tuesday, scored 23 points in each of the first two quarters vs.

 MISSOURI VALLEY (Dec.

 BOYS TOWN, NEB. (Dec. 7-8) -- Dalton McKinley and Carter Bendorf earned runner-up finishes to lead a group of seven Harlan Community place-winners as the Cyclone wrestlers placed fifth out of 15 teams at the Boys Town Invitational Friday and Saturday. HCHS scored 127 points to secure one of its best team finishes during 14 years of attending the meet.

 HARLAN -- Harlan Community senior Greichaly Kaster signed a national letter of intent on November 19 to run cross country and track at Dordt College in Sioux Center. Greichaly is the daugher of Bryan and Amy Kaster, rural Harlan. Kaster completed an outstanding cross country career for HCHS this fall, becoming a four-time state qualifier and four-time Hawkeye Ten Conference medalist.

 HARLAN -- Harlan Community senior Carter Griffin has signed a letter of intent to compete for the sports shooting program at Southwestern Community College in Creston. Griffin is the son of Jesse and Jeanna Rudolph and Craig Griffin. A varsity trap shooter for Harlan throughout high school, Griffin will graduate from HCHS in May, 2019, and become a Spartan next August.

 HARLAN (Dec. 3) -- The Harlan Community bowling teams opened their season with a split against Shenandoah Monday at Cyclone Lanes. The Cyclone girls were victorious by a total score of 2,122 to 2,017 while the Mustangs won the boys dual 2,573 to 2,290. The HCHS girls built a 121-pin advantage following two individual rounds and were able to make it stand throughout the Baker games.
