Cyclones, Wolves to play in girls jamboree

 HARLAN (Nov. 15) -- The Harlan Community girls basketball team will play IKM-Manning in the fourth matchup of an eight-team jamboree set for Thursday in Harlan. The Cyclones and Wolves will play a two-quarter game starting at approximately 7:15 p.m. Additional matchups include Griswold vs. Atlantic at 5:00 p.m., Riverside vs. Carroll at 5:45 and Treynor vs.

 EXIRA (Nov. 2) -- Avenging a season-opening loss on the same field in August, fifth-ranked Fremont-Mills jumped on top early and defeated No. 7 Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton 61-20 in an Eight-Player football quarterfinal playoff game here last Friday night. The Knights (10-1) will face New London (10-1) in a state semifinal game at the UNI-Dome Thursday at noon.

 EXIRA (Oct. 26) -- The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton football team started and finished the first half in strong fashion last Friday night, taking a commanding 44-8 lead to the locker room en route to a 51-14 win over Stanton in an Eight-Player first round playoff game. The 7th-ranked Spartans improved to 9-1 and will now host No. 5 Fremont-Mills (9-1) in a quarterfinal game Friday at 7:00 p.m.

 FORT DODGE (Oct. 27) -- AHSTW sophomores Julia Kock and Chloe Falkena both finished in the top one-third of the Class 1A girls field on Saturday afternoon, placing 32nd and 39th, respectively, in the State Cross Country Championships at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course.

HCHS football team visits Elm Crest

 HARLAN -- Prior to Harlan Community’s final home football game October 12, the entire Cyclone varsity squad walked through the Elm Crest Senior Living building to greet residents of nursing and assisted living. The Cyclones went on to defeat Creston 48-0 later that evening.

 OSKALOOSA (Oct. 26) -- When the Harlan Community football team travels 163 miles to face Oskaloosa in Friday’s Class 3A playoff opener, it will meet an opponent with strikingly-similar offensive credentials. The 7th-ranked Indians (8-1) have totaled the sixth-most yards in 3A with 3,446 and scored 46 offensive touchdowns.
